Teaming up with LA REUNION Antigua Golf Resort!
December 2008, Guatemalan Billfishing Adventures teammed up with LA REUNION Antigua Golf Resort, to offer another alternative to those anglers who also like to play golf by adding an extra day or two to their fishing package and enjoy this new Golf Course called "Fuego Maya".

Fuego Maya was designed by the internationally acclaimed Golf Architect Pete Dye, and as co-designer his son Perry Dye, in one of the most fascinating places they have ever worked on. Pete Dye has designed famous Golf Courses around the world, many used by US PGA Tour and his most famous project: Teeth of the Dog, in the Dominican Republic. Golf Courses designed by Pete & Perry Dye are famous for being challenging for golfer, assuring hours of entertainment. Fuego Maya is sure to challenge every golfer with its architecture and captivate them with breathtaking views of the Fuego Volcano and the Pacific Coastline.

With great care, La Reunión has created a harmonious relationship between the natural landscape and the development of a residential zone, a sport club featuring a world-class golf course, and a set of prestigious hotels with a magnificent spa. The architectural design is elegant, and is accented with touches of rustic, colonial-ranch style.

This course celebrates the similarities between the millenary Mayan calendar and the game of golf. The Mayan calendar consists of 18, 20-day months, followed by a period of five days. The first nine months follow the sun moving north and the remaining nine months follow the sun as it travels south. The last five-day period is known as Wayeb, and much like Golf´s celebratory 19th hole, is meant to be a time for relaxing and preparing for the journey ahead.

This is why "Fuego Maya" has been named as there is an incredible similarity between playing golf and following the Suns´s path, using the ancient Solar Mayan Calendar. Coincidence couldn´t been better! The creators of the Golf Course agreed to celebrate this fusion between Golf and the Mayan Calendar, by naming the Golf Course "FUEGO MAYA".
